Catalina Island
"A little slice of heaven"
Catalina is a little island in the Caribbean Sea, just a few kilometers off the coast of La Romana. Its total area is just fifteen square kilometers. Christopher Columbus, while passing through the region in May 1494, bestowed the name of the island to it.
Scuba divers and snorkelers will love Catalina Island. Its unspoiled beaches, with their soft white sands and serene waters, are a major part of what makes this location so stunning. Coral abounds in its seas, and at a depth of 21 meters, the wreck of Captain Kidd's ship has produced a "Living Museum of the Sea" that is situated just off the island.
The nesting season for hawksbill turtles is from June to October, when the water is warm enough.
