SAMANá
By the bay of Samaná, officially declared a Marine Mammal Sanctuary in 1986, from January 15th to March 30th we can observe the migration of large groups of humpback whales which, like every year, return to court, mate and give birth in the Atlantic waters. In the city of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, the small Museo de las Ballenas offers interesting information on these giant mammals and their predilection for the northwestern coasts of the Dominican Republic.
An excellent observation point for these whales is Punta Balandra, located along the road that leads the city of Samaná to Las Galeras, this location offers the possibility of sighting them without having to resort to excursions or private boat rental
